Electrical installations design, selection and initial inspection

Jag deltog pÄ mötet om den kommande utgÄvan av IEC 60079-14 Electrical installations design, selection and initial inspection. Standarden utges i Sverige i SEK Handbok 427 Elinstallationer i explosionsfarliga omrÄden.

Vi hÄller pÄ att ta fram ett CD förslag som innebÀr att det första steget i den nya utgÄvan kommer att skickas ut till medlemslÀnderna. PÄ detta stadiet kan man inkomma med större Àndringar som att ta bort eller lÀgga in nya avsnitt, vi Àr alltsÄ i början av att ta fram den nya utgÄvan..

MT60079-14: Explosive atmospheres – Part 14: Electrical installations design, selection and erection. MT 60079-14 held a meeting on 16 and 17 October 2018 in Busan. The MT 60079-14 is still preparingthe DC to commence the next edition. This work will continue into at least the next planned meeting in Waldenburg, Germany, March/April 2019.

The MT 60079-14 previously formed Task Groups for:

  • General requirements for cables
  • Report about testing the Ex “d” cable glands and the flame transmission test including the cables
  • Dissipation heat of Ex “e” enclosures and related calculations

Discussion regarding the requirement of cables for direct entry into flameproof enclosures was held. Resolution of further requirements has been postponed until the above report is available. A first summary of the cable glands and flame transmission tests including the cables was be presented at the SC31J plenary meeting.

MT 60079-14 had previously proposed to prepare a “Q” document seeking information from NCs as the extent of national adoptions of IEC 60079-14 and any national differences. This will help identify issues in the consistent use of the standard as well as items that may be considered as part of the development of the next edition. It is noted that IECEx have also asked for this detail so preparation of the “Q” document should be considered with this additional information. The TC 81 ”Lightning Protection” has published the document 81/603/FDIS (IEC 62305-3 Edition 3). TC 31 is not included in the list of interest committees, although Annex C contains requirements for lightning protection in potentially explosive atmospheres. The current edition of IEC 60079-14 also refers to this IEC standard. Starting with the definitions up to the technical requirements, the appendix contains a large number of errors and does not reflect the technical preferences of MT 60079-14. One possibility is to stop the publication and to revise the appendix. Another possibility is not to publish Annex C in IEC 62305-3 and to transfer lightning protection from this document as an Annex to IEC 60079-14. A third possibility is for IEC 60079-14 to no longer recommend using IEC 62305 for lightning protection.
